The Future of Stronghold

Today we have two huge announcements to make! First things first, we are proud to announce that Stronghold Kingdoms will be coming to iPad and iPhone! Featuring the full game in playable form, a customised interface with new touchscreen controls and of course cross platform play with the millions of existing Kingdoms players, Stronghold Kingdoms iOS will be one of a kind on the App Store.

Our second announcement is admittedly more of a future teaser for our fans on PC. We wanted to have something for everyone in terms of news at this year’s Gamescom, so we included a little something around the one minute mark of our reveal trailer. Find out what the future holds for Stronghold on mobile and PC…

Stronghold Kingdoms iOS

Currently being developed to expand Kingdoms’ player base and give existing players more options for when and how they defend their villages, secure resources and plan attacks. The idea here is to secure the future of the game and make clear our plans to continue supporting Kingdoms, with new features and world types coming. ‘Ready when it’s ready’, the new iOS version is being rebuilt specifically for mobile devices.

‘Stronghold Next’

Effectively our code name for what will go on to become a new standalone Stronghold title on PC. We know that traditional entries in the series are just as important to players as they are to the devs here at Firefly, so we wanted to let you know our more distant plans for the series on PC as well as on mobile. We have nothing more to announce at this time as we are still very much at the concept stage, but we do want your ideas! Get in touch via the Steam forum, social media and our own forums so that we know exactly what you want out of a new Stronghold game.

Kingdoms @ Gamescom 2015

Coming back to today’s main announcement, Stronghold Kingdoms iOS is currently being shown to press at Gamescom 2015 and on release will introduce Kingdoms’ brand of hardcore strategy to a new audience. As an MMO we know how important an active, growing player base is to the Kingdoms community and the future of the game itself. As such our intention is to develop a bespoke version of this important game, with a user interface that has been redesigned completely for touch while still retaining all key functionality players are used to from the PC version.

We can’t wait to share more about this new version of Kingdoms and our other plans. Please look out for screenshots, dev diaries and more closer to the release on iPad and iPhone. For now please enjoy the rest of the Gamescom news!
